[ Up ] APA/FPS Fellows Membership Drive Three years ago, the American Psychiatric Association made a major change to its Fellowship program, a program that recognizes contributions to the Profession by members. Effective in 2002, the old category of APA Fellow, which honors members who have made truly outstanding contributions in many areas, is renamed “Distinguished APA Fellow,” and a new category of “APA Fellow” has been created. The Florida Psychiatric Society represents most of the finest psychiatrists in the state, and it benefits your professional reputation as well as the reputation of our Society and our profession to advance to Fellowship status. This is an important honor that you should not fail to pursue. The category of APA Fellow is available to members who are board-certified and have been general members in good standing for at least five consecutive years. The application must be accompanied by brief letters of endorsement by three Fellows or Distinguished Fellows. Most likely you already have several colleagues who are Fellows or Distinguished Fellows; you can also consult your FPS Membership Directory or call the office in Tallahassee if you need to identify people to write your letters of endorsement. APA will automatically send application materials to eligible members in February, but you can, and should, apply for elevation at any time. Guidelines and applications are available online at the APA website or from the FPS office.
