[ Up ] APA/FPS Distinguished Fellow Membership Drive The category of Distinguished APA Fellow is reserved for members who have made outstanding contributions to Psychiatry and to their community in a number of areas. Potential Distinguished Fellows must have been general members (or Fellows) in good standing for at least eight years. The application for Distinguished Fellowship is quite a bit more involved than the Fellow Application, as the applicant must document, in great detail, excellence (not mere competence) in a number of areas. Applications for Distinguished Fellowship must also be accompanied by very detailed letters of endorsement from at least three Distinguished Fellows, as well as supporting letters from other individuals. Following are the requirements to be met: 1. At least 8 years as General Member or Fellow. 2. Primary identity must be psychiatry for those in combined fields. 3. The General Member or Fellow should be an outstanding psychiatrist who has made and continues to make significant contributions in at least five of the areas listed below. a. Certification by the ABPN, RCPS (C) or AOA. b. Involvement in the Work of the District Branch or APA. c. Involvement in other medical and professional organizations. d. Participation in non-compensated mental health and medical activities of social significance. e. Participation in community activities unrelated to income-producing activities. f. Clinical contributions. g. Administrative contributions. h. Teaching contributions. i. Scientific and scholarly publications. 4. Three letters of recommendation from APA Distinguished Fellows.
The completed application and letters of recommendation must be submitted by June 1, 2006 to the Florida Psychiatric Society, 521 East Park Avenue, Tallahassee, Fl 32301
