The Psychosomatic Medicine (Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry) Fellowship at University of Miami Miller School of Medicine/Jackson Memorial Hospital offers two positions for this ACGME-accredited one-year fellowship.

The fellows are expected to rotate 6 months at Jackson Memorial Hospital, the tertiary public teaching hospital and 6 months at the University of Miami Hospital.

The fellow provides clinical care in critical care settings, inpatient medical, obstetrical and surgical wards, emergency room, and at the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital, as well as the inpatient medical and surgical units at the University of Miami Hospital.

Areas of specialized training include psycho-oncology, HIV, trauma, cardiovascular medicine, transplant psychiatry, and perinatal psychiatry.

OPPORTUNITIES:

ü Inpatient rotations: Approximately 15 new cases and 10 follow up cases per week

ü Established rotations in oncology and HIV ambulatory settings

ü Participation in didactic activities – grand rounds, M&M, journal club, clinical rounds, case conferences

ü Direct teaching of psychiatry residents and medical students

ü Academic research opportunities

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The Geriatric Psychiatry Training Program at the Miller School of Medicine/University of Miami in affiliation with Jackson Memorial Hospital, is a full-time, ACGME-accredited, one year training program. Residents in training are assigned to clinical rotations with strong emphasis on the issues that relate to older adults in diverse clinical settings, including geriatric psychiatry inpatient, acute medical inpatient consultation-liaison as well as consultation in long term nursing and rehabilitation care. Multidisciplinary teamwork is emphasized, consisting of psychiatrists, neurologists, internists, neuropsychologists, nurses, and social workerswith expertise in geriatrics. By means of individual supervision, small group seminars, didactic lectures, and case conferences related to clinical material and basic sciences, we provide a comprehensive training program for geriatric psychiatry. Additionally, we support membership in the American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry.

PThe University of Miami Memory Disorder Clinic – a unique outpatient experience with close collaboration with UM Neurology and Neuropsychology.

PRotation at the Miami VA Medical Center Nursing Home and Long Term Care unit located conveniently at the Miami VA Medical Center, across the street from Jackson Memorial Hospital.

POutpatient experience at Miami VA Medical Center Geriatric Primary Care Clinic, working closely with geriatricians and geriatric medicine fellows.

PConsultant work at Miami VA Medical Center Acute Inpatient and Hospice.
