Welcome
Phillip W. Cushman, M.D. What was merely an idea a few years ago is now a reality. Since our inception in 1997 we have already had one major facelift with more changes planned as technology continues to develop. Where will it lead? Already you can read selected articles from our newsletter Transference online as soon as they have been edited and well before the newsletter has been printed and put into the mail to you. Information on membership and dues is readily available anytime of the day or night. Prospective members can make preliminary applications online. Dates and details of Florida Psychiatric Society scientific meetings are available. Information on legislation and how to contact legislators is a mouse click away. We now have a Listserv, FPS-INTOUCH, which permits members with email capability to communicate virtually instantaneously with all other members on the list by sending just one message. If you are interested in being on this Listserv contact FPS at the Tallahassee office. We will confirm that you are a member in good standing and send your email address to me for addition to the list. We also have other special interest listservs. Contact FPS for more information. You can register for meetings and pay registration fees online through a secure server. Eventually I would like to be able to publish model letters to legislators online for members to download and personalize without having to type the entire draft from scratch. You can make purchases from nationally known e-commerce sites such as Amazon.com, Omaha Steaks and Office Depot from the convenience of your home or office. You can also make travel arrangements through Expedia. Your purchase prices will be as low or lower than your local sources and a portion of the "profit" will come to FPS. If enough of us make our purchases via the Florida Psychiatric Society Home Page the commissions may eventually provide a useful source of revenue to the Society. What we need most, however, is for you the online member to proselytize your colleagues. Show them what online access offers you (and them, of course). Give them a demonstration. Show them this website and perhaps some of those listed on our Links page. Once again, welcome to the Florida Psychiatric Society Website. I hope you find it useful. Check back frequently for updates and changes. Finally, a sincere "Thank You" to those who share our vision of the importance of online computer access through sponsorship of Web Pages. Check the bottom of the page for that information and please thank a business if you see indication of their sponsorship. Thanks for visiting. Come back soon. Best wishes, Phil
