CMS Waives Provider Screening Requirements in Regions Impacted by Harvey, Irma
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) recently approved suspending certain Medicare enrollment screening requirements for health care providers and suppliers that are assisting with Hurricane Harvey recovery efforts in Texas and Louisiana. CMS Administrator Seema Verma said the agency has established a hotline for health care providers in the two impacted states to enroll in the federal health programs and receive temporary Medicare billing privileges. Verma also issued a letter granting 14 waivers to support Florida in response to Hurricane Irma. The actions include temporarily waiving or modifying certain Medicare, Medicaid, and Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) requirements.
