Patient Information Sharing Rules - CURES Act

The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) recently released a Final Update to the 21st Century CURES Act, which notably provides more detailed definitions and deadlines for updates that may affect Psychiatric practice. These rules will go into effect on April 5, 2021. Definition for important terms such as "Electronic Health Information" and "protected health information" have been slightly changed, and it impacts the sharing or blocking of a patient's public records with that patient.
