Psyched Out!

Psyched Out!, the Florida Psychiatric Society’s edition of the APA’s MindGames, is a Resident-Fellow Member Competition. In the game of Psyched Out!, residency programs will go toe-to-toe on topics including the DSM, psychotherapy, psychopharmacology, neuromodulation, issues within psychiatric practice, and history. Psyched Out! is a “double CME” – a Collaborative Mental Exercise, and 2-hour credit for Continuing Medical Education that takes place during FPS’ annual Spring Meeting & Expo.

 

Game Rules

  • We will have 2 heats, each with 10 questions asked to 3 teams.
  • The first heat of three teams will take the stage. A question will appear on the screen and music will play for 30 seconds.
  • Teams will deliberate within their groups and write down their chosen answer on the provided whiteboard. Team members may not obtain help from anyone outside their team or from any electronic resources.
  • At the end of the 30 seconds, the emcee will ask the teams to put down their pens and display their answers.
  • Points are awarded using the following scale:
  • Round 1 & 2

    • Correct answer: +10 points
    • Incorrect Answer & No Response: +/- 0 points

    Round 3 – Final Round

    • Correct answer: +20 points
    • Questions with 2 answers: +10 points for each correct answer (for a total of 20 points)
    • Questions with 4 answers: +5 points for each correct (for a total of 20 points)
    • Incorrect Answer & No Response: +/- 0 points
  • A panel of 3 judges will keep score during game play.
  • Each winning team from the first two heats will move onto the final round. If there is a tie in one of the rounds, a tie breaker question will be asked.2 teams will compete in the final round.
  • Tie Breaker questions will be multiple answer questions.
  • If any response is open for deliberation, judges will convene to determine if acceptable.
  • The final round with the winning teams from heat 1 and heat 2 will have 10 questions. If the score is tied at the end of the 10 questions, the game will continue using a multiple-answer tie breaker question. The team with the highest accumulated score at the end of game play wins.
