Wednesday, April 28, 2021
Governor DeSantis signed Executive Order 21-94 on April 27th, which extends Executive Order 20-52 and several linked DOH orders for 60 days. These telehealth provisions will now expire on Saturday, June 26, 2021 unless further extended. This extension of Executive Order 20-52 also sets Emergency Order 20-002 to expire on June 26. This order allows physicians who are designated as a controlled substance prescribing practitioner to issue a renewal of a controlled substance without having to conduct a physical examination of the patient, but only for an existing patient for the purpose of treating chronic nonmalignant pain. Telehealth may only be substituted for the physical examination. The order also approves certain out-of-state healthcare providers to treat patients in Florida. The FMA has provided a convenient summary of this order. Additional links:
