Tallahassee Launches Mental Health Mobile Response Unit
Friday, April 23, 2021
| From the Tallahassee Democrat: _______________________________________________________________________________________ This week we officially launched our new mental health crisis response unit, Tallahassee Emergency Assessment Mobile Unit (TEAM). I called for the creation of this unit last year, and I am proud that we are continuing to expand how we serve our community, especially individuals in crisis. The fact of the matter is a uniformed officer is not always the best response to a person in crisis. In partnership with The Apalachee Center, this unit consists of a mental health professional, a paramedic or EMT from the Fire Department, and a Crisis Intervention Team trained police officer. Each year we receive approximately 2,300 non-violent calls for mental-health related help, and this team will help us provide counseling on-scene, transportation to The Apalachee Center, and other services as needed to address the immediate crisis.
