COVID Vaccines in Florida

Updated 4/5/2021

Vaccine Registration

On January 29, Florida released a pre-registration system that allows eligible individuals to enter their information and get "in line" to receive the vaccine as more doses become available.

Getting on the list can easily be done online at myvaccine.fl.gov. Simply enter your county and follow the prompts. If you have trouble with the online form, you can also find each county's phone and TTY numbers for pre-registration here.

Vaccine Distribution

IMPORTANT UPDATE! On March 26, 2021, Governor Ron DeSantis issued Executive Order 21-79which expands the list of those eligible for the COVID vaccine in two stages. Stage 2, effective April 5, 2021, states that "all Floridians shall be eligible to receive any COVID19 vaccine as prescribed by the Food and Drug Administration. "

As of April 2021, the Pfizer vaccine is approved for individuals 16 and older, and Moderna and Johnson & Johnson are both approved for individuals 18 and older. Clinical studies of vaccine efficacy in youth are currently being conducted.

How vaccine distribution is handled varies greatly based on county. County Medical Societies are working closely with the local Department of Health offices to expedite the vaccine to physicians. If you are looking to get vaccinated, please start by using the sign-up above, or contact your County Medical Society or County Health Department. If you need assistance locating the contact information for your local County Medical Society, please contact FPS.

FPS’s lobbyists were directly in communication with the Florida Department of Health and advocating on behalf of non-hospital based physicians to have easier access to vaccination in the early states of the vaccine rollout. We recognize that doctors and their staff, regardless of age or practice setting, are essential workers.

Where to get Vaccinated

If you have explored the pre-registration option above and are still having a hard time getting signed up, checking with individual distributors or County Medical Societies may help. Vaccine distribution policies and availability vary per county. News and site of distribution change frequently. For the latest information, we strongly recommend calling the following groups:

  • Your county’s medical society (or a neighboring county’s)
  • The FDOH Vaccine Finder tool
  • Your county health department. If you don't see it on the FDOH Vaccine Finder above, you can use google or click here and select “Counties” from the top orange section, and find your county. This will take you to the county home page.

Non-Florida Residents' Vaccine Eligibility

As of January 21, in response to concerns about “vaccine tourism” and residents of other states traveling to Florida to receive the vaccine, the Surgeon General issued an order restricting availability of COVID-19 vaccines to Florida residents and front line health care workers from other states who are providing care to Florida’s patients. From the order:

Prior to providing the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine to the intended recipient, every vaccine provider in Florida should ensure the recipient of the vaccine is either: a resident of the State of Florida able to demonstrate residency consistent with the criteria set forth in Section 381.986(5)(b), F.S. (To see details, click the link and search (on your keyboard: CTRL+F) for "Residency"); or an individual present in Florida for the purpose of providing health care services involving direct contact with patients.
