FPS Resident fellow member resource center header image

FPS values our Resident members for bringing fresh thoughts to our organization, and for maintaining the strength of the practice of Psychiatry in Florida.

If you have not already done so, please take a look at your Member Benefits to ensure you know all of the sources at your disposal. There are additional online resources that are only available when you are logged in to your FPS account!

Meeting your unique needs

FPS wants you to have the best experience both during residency and after. We seek to do that through helping you network with practicing psychiatrists and residents from other programs, by keeping you updated on current issues in the field, and by giving you a voice in the community.

RFM Members have unique opportunities for leadership and involvement in our society. For example:

  • Life After Residency - a gathering at our two annual CME Meetings where you can meet members in established practice for open discussion about starting and managing your career.
  • RFMs have the opportunity to join our RFM committee, as well as any other committees that guide our organization and practice. There are also three RFM slots in the Membership Committee. Serving on a committee allows you to network with other Psychiatrists, and raise your voice in FPS. Learn more about the Committees and how to join here.
  • John Adams Poster Contest - submit a research poster to present at our Spring Meeting. The top three finalists earn cash prizes!
  • FPS has 7 local Chapters, where members in close proximity may meet to discuss local topics and issues. This is a great way to find a mentor in your area.
  • The RFM Member Forum, where you have your own space to discuss topics related to FPS or Psychiatry.
  • A special section in the monthly E-Connect newsletter. Email if you are not receiving the E-Connect - they are usually sent out in the first two weeks of each month.

Career Center

FPS has its own Career Center, so that you can see the latest opportunities in our networks. Upload your resume, search openings, and more! You can also sign up for email alerts to get the latest information.

Other places you can search for jobs include: The American Psychiatric Association; Veteran’s AffairsPsychiatric Times; Modern Medicine NetworkMed Job Network; and Practice Link.

How does Legislation affect you?

We understand that you may have a hard time following legislative proposals affecting Psychiatry as you work through residency - especially if they don't affect you yet! However, we encourage you to be aware of potential law changes, as bills often get edited and filed again if they don't pass initially.

You can read about relevant bills in the 2019 session and how FPS advocated on Psychiatry's behalf here

As we enter the next legislative session in 2020, we would love for you to be vocal about any bills that you feel strongly about. We will share information online under "Advocacy" and in the Legislative Updates about opportunities to send emails to your representatives, visit the Capitol, and more. Our representatives have supported efforts to bring more residents into Florida, so you have a unique position to help educate and influence policy!
